ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITYWhitewaterTM is about more than "green living." This is a community that is designed to be sustainable - a setting that balances environmental accountability and social innovation with economic viability. What does that mean? Well, to be environmentally accountable, we're preserving as much tree canopy and green space as possible, and implementing programs that help preserve and protect natural resources, such as using drip irrigation fed by rainwater throughout WhitewaterTM Parkway. To incorporate social innovation, we're designing neighborhoods that place homes with diverse price points next to one another, rather than segregating people by economic class. And to the benefit of both ourselves and our residents, we're doing all of this in a way that will be economically viable for years to come. In other words, WhitewaterTM is a place where both man and nature can thrive in harmony. Truly, both are emphasized here to a degree found in no other Charlotte community. For example, we are a registered member of the Audubon International Gold Signature Program. We are also working toward the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Exploration Center. And we are encouraging our builders to follow the National Association of Homebuilders' green building program. |
